How I work

Services shaped around your garden

Whether you need clarity on a tricky corner or a full redesign with build support, each commission is scoped clearly — so you know what you are investing in at every stage.

  • Project management

End-to-end coordination from tender through to final planting. I attend site meetings, answer contractor queries and keep the build aligned with the agreed design — so you are not relaying messages or resolving details alone.

  • Material sourcing

I specify and procure paving, setts, timber, aggregates and architectural metalwork. Samples and schedules make choices clear; I time orders to suit the build programme.

  • Plant sourcing

I source from trusted Hampshire and UK nurseries — trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs matched to your soil report, aspect and the upkeep you want. Setting-out lists support planting on site.

  • Annual planting plans

I draw up structured plans for colour and interest through the year — spring bulbs, summer perennials, autumn structure and winter evergreens. Ideal if you enjoy gardening but want a clear roadmap.

  • Outdoor lighting design

I produce lighting layouts, fitting schedules and circuit notes for low-glare, practical illumination. Paths, steps, key trees and dining areas are considered as part of the wider garden design.

  • Full garden design

The complete commission: survey, concept, detailed layout, planting design, materials palette and construction information. I resolve hard landscape, planting, lighting and outdoor living together — not as afterthoughts.

  • Outdoor kitchen design

I design layout for prep, cooking, dining and shade — integrated with terraces, utilities and planting. Finishes and dimensions are coordinated with landscapers and kitchen suppliers for a seamless install.

  • Soil suitability reports

I assess soil type, pH, compaction and drainage — with plain-language recommendations for lawns, beds, build areas and planting. A sensible first step on challenging or unknown sites.

  • 2D and 3D garden renders

I produce scaled 2D plans plus 3D visuals and walk-through style images where useful — so you can sign off layout, levels and materials before groundworks begin. Available as part of full design or as a focused package.

Process

From first conversation to finished garden

  1. Brief & site visit

How you live outdoors, maintenance expectations, budget and timing. I survey levels, views, access and features worth keeping.

  2. Concept design

I share layout options with mood imagery and planting direction — refined until the plan feels right functionally and emotionally.

  3. Detailed design

I deliver final plans, planting schedules, lighting and material specs — everything needed to price and build with confidence.

  4. Build & planting

I support tender and contractor selection, with on-site checks. Planting is supervised or handed over with clear aftercare guidance.

Garden planting and design detail

Principles

Sustainability

I favour permeable surfaces where appropriate, peat-free planting, rainwater awareness and species that support pollinators without constant intervention.

Local context

Chalk, clay and coastal edges — Hampshire’s variety matters. I design for your site’s light, soil and architecture.

Honest upkeep

Beauty and practicality fail when maintenance is underestimated. I plan for the time you truly have.
